Artists Notes on "The Sea Inside":

No temas!  This means:  "Be not afraid" in Spanish.   In the middle of this piece there is a note which says:  "Believe in yourself and don't let anyone or anything to take away that peace that you have in your heart".

The faceless woman with the red dress represents every woman that is herself.  She is watched by others (whoe are all stereotypes/all uniformed).   A woman must always stand out and be proud of who she is and does.  She is different and elegant.

The daisies represent simplicity and at the end everything ends, but the beauty is in the simplicity of being you.

There is a woman behind the curtain and that represents that women that doesn't believe in herself. She pretends to be someone else.

The shell represents the complexity of life.

The flower has life, but is not immortal.

There is a hibiscus, which is considered a very feminine flower and so is usually given or worn by women.  In North America especially, a hibiscus means a perfect woman.
